I am passionate about venture because..
I love the challenge of identifying disruptive people (and their ideas), working together with them, and trying to be a catalyst for growth and long-term value creation through them.
The one word I’d choose to describe why Bek is different is..
care.
If I wasn’t in venture, I’d be..
a marine biologist.
The best advice I ever received was..
"the wise speak only of what they know." It was a really old and wise guy who said this, so I guess it stuck.
I’m most skeptical about..
the self-promotion epidemic in the VC ecosystem (and unfortunately it’s contagious).
The most unexpected thing about being in venture is..
you realize pretty quickly that it’s never an easy smooth ride for even the most successful companies, unlike what it may seem like from the outside. Founding teams have to deal with a lot of challenges, and their approach, persistence and ability to tackle them usually separates a successful business from others. Despite how simple this sounds to founders and experienced business people, it is not as truly understood in the VC world as people might think.
The tech I don’t think will survive the next decade is..
passwords, hopefully.
